GVCdtLab and CIRANO Welcome French and Québec Delegation

GVCdtLab and CIRANO recently had the pleasure of welcoming a French and Québec delegation bringing together representatives from the diplomatic, institutional, business and academic communities. The meeting provided an opportunity to present the Lab’s work and discuss the role of emerging technologies in the analysis and design of public policies.

Led by Thierry Warin, Professor at HEC Montréal and researcher at CIRANO, the meeting brought together Jean-Pierre Raffarin, former Prime Minister of France, Jean-François Copé, former Minister, Emmanuelle Pérès, CEO of the Fondation Prospective & Innovation, as well as representatives from the Consulate General of France in Québec City. Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin, President and CEO of CIRANO, was pleased to welcome the delegation.

Discussions focused primarily on the digital twin developed by GVCdtLab and its potential to transform the design and evaluation of trade policies. In a context marked by increasingly complex global value chains and growing geopolitical uncertainty, the tool combines artificial intelligence, economic modelling and data science to better understand economic interdependencies, simulate different scenarios and support decision-making.

Participants also discussed the opportunities and challenges associated with using artificial intelligence as a tool to support public decision-making, as well as the importance of strengthening collaboration between research, innovation and public policy, both in Québec and internationally.
